Getting away from it all around the festive season is often a great idea with thousands of us taking to warmer climates every year. So if you’re planning on leaving the stress and awful weather of another UK Christmas behind and heading abroad, you need to check out our guide to the top Christmas holiday destinations:
Down Under
For a completely different Christmas experience, Australia is a must. Though understandably expensive, the scorching heat of the antipodean winter is the perfect remedy to the festive blues for some. Why not catch the surf and head out to the beach for a traditional Christmas barbecue? You may, at times, have to pinch yourself in order to remember that it is actually Christmas… such is the difference between Australia and Europe. Not one for the traditionalist, Australia boasts fantastic destinations such as Surfer’s Paradise where you and the family can unwind in a strictly relaxed environment.
Lapland
If you’ve got little ones to think of in your Christmas holiday plans, then Lapland surely must be on your list. The kids will marvel at visiting the North Pole, being pulled along in a sleigh by reindeer and, of course, meeting the great man in red himself. The joy of visiting Lapland really comes from the excitement and Christmas magic it provides the younger ones, but there’s still plenty for the adults to do. For the kids, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip that they’ll always remember.
Christmas Markets, Germany
For that distinctly festive feeling without having to go all the way to the North Pole, Germany offers a wide-range of destinations, cultural events and activities. The Christmas market is a real German holiday tradition and a great place to grab those last-minute festive gifts. Due to it being relatively close to the UK, Germany is perfect for the shorter vacation and benefits from being the cheapest on our list. It’s a great all-round holiday destination for families with plenty to keep both the adults and kids entertained. Many coach companies offer tours to the famous Christmas markets for next-to-nothing. Of course, there’s so much to do that you may want to extend your stay.
Skiing
People love to go to the slopes during the Christmas holidays. With snow guaranteed for most of the year, there’s no danger of trudging through the mud in December! Want to enjoy a ski trip, why not check out Harga Honda Makassar, Colorado – if you want to push the boat out; St Anton, Austria – if you look forward to après skiing over the slopes; and Chamonix – if you’re looking for something a little more challenging. Holiday advisor has a large selection of ski resorts and packages if you want to ski during your vacation.
